11.22-26  Biola Thanksgiving Vac

October

10.22-24  Minuteman project at Camp Vigilance on the Mexican border.  My story.

August

8.23  Biola classes begin --  I will be working with the staff to help produce a program to help especially the men with sexuality issues -- a plague on just about every campus in America.

March

3.22 Emmaus Ministries and I have moved to La Habra, CA, near Biola University (in La Mirada, next door), to teach as part-time lecturer.  I will be a part of the Torrey Honors (Great Books) Program which is producing young men and women, many of whom will be part of the Lord's new Gideon army.  They are getting a first class education, and are eager to learn how to defend their faith in the public arena of today.   I will officially begin in the fall, but have already been assigned 11 3-hour classes for this spring semester on various subjects, ranging through Shakespeare, the early Church fathers, and the Bible.

The move was quite smoothly done (Deo gratia!), apart from rain on the moving day, which necessitated my making a second trip back for some leftovers.  I am slowly getting acquainted at Biola, at which I am delighted to be.

New address and phone click here.  Email and website remain as is.

February

2.6-10  "To the Next Village" -- Conference on world Christian educationVision Christian University - Ramona, CA --   Teachers and students will be coming from around the world to see about Vision U's offerings for education in the developing countries.   Vision uses two books for their courses from Emmaus Ministries by Earle Fox:  Homosexuality: Good & Right in the Eyes of God?  and  Biblical Inner Healing.   This will be a wonderful opportunity for meeting more of the Vision people and networking on the apologetics issues.

November

11.20   2nd Paradox Class at Congregational Church in Sierra Madre.   Topic:  The Meaning of "Faith", and how Faith is the foundation of all knowledge, scientific or otherwise.  This is the most vital lesson for Christians to get under their belts.  It will show us how to sharpen the two-edged Sword of the Spirit, the Word of Truth, to a fine edge -- Reason and Revelation welded back to back make an invincible weapon.  (See The Authority of the Bible in a Scientific Age for most of this material.)

11.19  SPEAKEASY --  2 sessions - 3rd Saturdays - November 19 & December 17, 7 p.m.  We will be doing two sessions on Intelligent Design (ID), the emerging consensus among scientists that the empirical evidence strongly favors an intelligent designer as the explanation for the enormously complex cosmos in which we live.  One cell in your body contains more information that the Encyclopedia Brittanica.  Come and hear how this argument is taking place, and bring your questions.

In the New Year, we will begin a series on Yahweh or the Great Mother? -- a discussion of the two worldviews available to us, and show how the Biblical worldview is the only one which is logically consistent and can account for the empirical evidence.   Science could never have arisen in a pagan or a secular world.  And didn't -- until after a 1000 years of marinating in the Biblical culture of Western Europe.

11.6     First Paradox Class - 11 am Sunday, at Congregational Church in Sierra Madre, near Los Angeles.   Main topic: Faith: How We Know What We Know.   The inability of Christians to explain their faith reasonably has been THE major factor in the demise of Christendom over the last four centuries.  We did not know how to compete with secular materialism.  That was doubly tragic, (1) because Christian failure led to the most debauched and brutal century of mankind, and (2)  because the Biblical worldview is the only logically consistent worldview there is, and the only worldview which can account for the empirical evidence.  We should never have lost the battle for the 19th and 20th centuries.   But if Christians do not know the truth, the opposition is not going to tell them.

This first session is about:  Why we do not know how we know what we know.  This is the "bad news".   The good news comes on the 20th.   If you want to be prepared to deal with the intellectual, moral, and spiritual chaos "out there", come to these two sessions.  They will be taped and available.  Contact Emmaus Ministries.   Two tape set will cost $10 + postage.

October

10.15   SPEAKEASY --  Saturday, 7 pm.   See flyer.    We will be tackling the homosexuality issue with a movie testimony on coming out of homosexuality, then a talk by Earle Fox, with Q & A, discussion, and refreshments.    This is a defining issue of our time.  Can you speak the truth in love to your friends and in public?

10.3-5   Ecumenical Pastors' Prayer Conference to be held at Episcopal Conference Center, Oakhurst, CA  (ECCO - about 50 miles from Fresno).  I will have opportunity to talk to those assembled about the homosexual issue, with the possibility of doing a church-sponsored seminar on the subject probably in Fresno.  And, if that goes well, possibly a follow up public event, perhaps a debate at a local university.    Please pray for the opportunity held before us.

REPORT:  The conference was a wonderful surprise.  It was ecumenical (no Roman Catholics, unfortunately), but a joining together of evangelicals, catholics (small 'c'), and charismatics who are fed up with Christians fighting with each other.   They want to make themselves available to God for whatever needs to happen to bring spiritual renewal to the San Joaquin Valley.  I think they will succeed.  Indeed, they are succeeding already in making an impact.  Christian unity will produce that kind of effect anywhere it happens.   They are using materials from http://www.sentinelgroup.org/ which are some of the best I have ever seen for reaching out to one's city and surroundings.  We were there three days.

September

9.17   SPEAKEASY  Emmaus Ministries will team up with the Christian Community of Family Ministry where I live, here in Vista, to invite interested persons to learn about how to defend the Christian faith in public.  I will talk about the main issue over which we have stumbled for two centuries -- HOW DO WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE THE TRUTH???

The answer is not complicated, but we have tied ourselves in such knots over the subject that we cannot see the obvious.  Reason and faith are wedded in the Biblical picture.  Learning how to present that fact to the public is our task.

We will also present a stunning DVD on the Exodus event, a piece of sleuthing which shows how Christians ought to be able to handle the empirical evidence.  The stunning hard evidence shows  that there really was a Red Sea crossing, pretty much as Exodus describes it.

August

8.29-10.3    Trip to Fresno to visit with the Rt. Rev. John David Schofield in the Episcopal Diocese of San Juaquin (who will become my bishop when my transfer is made from the Diocese of Pittsburgh), with Marshall Fritz, leader of the Alliance for the Separation of School & State, with Russell Willingham, leader of New Creation Ministries, an Exodus ministry helping people out of homosexuality, and some time at nearby Yosemite Park.   It was a wonderful trip in all ways (except that I was detoured about six hours returning by a fire on the mountain top leading out of the San Juaquin Valley -- but even that was a beautiful detour through Los Padres National Park).  I expect some very hopeful repercussions coming from my visits.

8.15    Hospital stay -- for bladder stone removal and prostate chiseling.  Entered hospital Wednesday, August 10, left Saturday the 13th.  Some pain, but not much.  Will have catheter for two weeks (bummer), but the doc says life after that will be super (looking forward to it).   As the Greeks (I am told) say, "God is good -- all the time."

May

5.10   SAFE ARRIVAL on April 22 --  2700+ miles and 400 gallons of diesel later....   Yes, my truck got all of about 7 mpg.  Well, it was *loaded* and pulling a trailer.   But, gee whiz, I think the big 18 wheelers get that much.    (See pictures.)

The trip across America, mostly via I-40, was the 4th or 5th such trip I have made.  Some folks think it a long, dreary haul, but it has each time been for me a wonderful experience of the glory of the land God has given us.  I made it in five days of traveling, so averaged about 550 miles per day.

Not bad in a U-Haul truck which has been less than helpfully serviced.   200 miles out I discovered that it needed over a gallon of oil and that one inside tire was very low, putting all that pressure of a loaded-to-the-brim truck on one tire rather than two.  Neither the oil nor the air was leaking, so they just had not been serviced for a very, very long time.  There was an exhaust leak, which drifted into the cab unless I kept the windows closed (they drew air in from open places in the floor of the cab).  Fortunately it was not summer time, and therefore cool enough.  The exhaust leak turned the truck into a bucket of noise.  There were several other items not up to snuff, but the Lord gave me a good trip nevertheless.  Partly by working on my attitude....

It will be three months or so before my permanent lodgings are constructed -- a modular unit housing my bedroom and Emmaus Ministries office.  I will be sharing my life with the Christian Community of Family Ministry here in Vista, partly to reach out to young adults in schools nearby to teach them how to present and to live their faith with intellectual, moral, and spiritual integrity.  The Western Church must rebuild nearly the whole of its spiritual leadership -- which is incapable of fighting the spiritual battle before us.  But there are marvelous signs of good things happening, which have been and will continue to report on.

Prior to my modular unit being constructed, I am sleeping in a chicken coop.  Well, that is how it began.  Then it became a migrant workers house, and then a guest house with some office space.  Emmaus Ministries is housed in one of the bedrooms of CCFM.  A bit cramped, but working out.  And it is only for 3 months.

Today my internet access got reestablished, and I am reinvigorating the Road to Emmaus with new items.

April

4.16 -- Moving Date   I will be packing a 26 foot U-Haul and moving from Alexandria, Virginia, to Vista, California, to be more closely knit to the Christian Community of Family Ministry (CCFM), and possibly to do some teaching at a nearby university.   We (the community) expect to be contacting students and faculty at nearby schools who wish to learn how to present the Christian case (e.g., for human sexuality) in the public arena with truth and grace.

The hope for Western Civ. lies in the young folks who are still asking honest questions.  Most folks of my generation (born 1935) and those generations following have lost their way.  But God is at work raising up a new Gideon army for such a time as this.  Your prayers are requested for safe travel and all the logistics which need to happen.

The Road to Emmaus will be relatively inactive until mid or late April, after my getting back from the mission trip to Trinidad.

4.2-10  - Mission trip to Trinidad with Rick Mitchell and his ministry, Sports & Rec Plus, a ministry which uses sports for evangelizing.  He has found pastors on Trinidad who want to learn how to deal with the homosexual issues.  Gloria Dei!  There may be more clergy who want to deal with this issue in little ol' Trinidad than in all of the US of A.   Please keep us in your prayers.

For meetings in other Maryland counties

Here is a letter from Pastor Guy Cary at Immanuel's Church:

In July of this year, the ACLU filed suit against the State of Maryland to force the legalization of homosexual marriage in our state. Their argument uses the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in an attempt to claim legal protection as a minority group for their sexual preference. The ramifications of a favorable ruling for you are extensive and far reaching.
Sexual preference should not be given the same status of true minorities. Your right to speak the morality of your faith, to choose who you will marry in your house of worship, and who you will employ to work with your youth programs are all in immediate jeopardy. You must act now and become informed.
I urge you therefore to attend an emergency meeting of clergy and faith leaders from our area to hear the facts and formulate a strategy.

Please visit www.defendmarylandmarriage.com for more information. (www.immanuels.org).  .... Delegates from the Maryland State Legislature will be present to answer your questions. Please extend this invitation to leaders in your circle of contacts or refer them to one of the several meetings being held in MD.

August

16-19  --  at Episcopal "Network" conference, Sandy Cove Retreat Center in northeast Maryland

8.15     BACK IN HARNESS   I was away all month, in Connecticut and Massachusetts with my children and grandchildren.  And then off to Canada (north of Minnesota for a stay in the north woods (at a family retreat... which my dad bought about 30 years ago).   Had my first small plane ride, my first plane ride into the Canadian north woods, and caught the most fish I ever have in one day.  And lots of good family time with my brother & wife, sister, and nephew with his family.   I had brought my laptop to keep the ROAD up to date, but  neglected to transfer my website onto the laptop, so was not able to do any updating at all.

Then back to Boston, drove down to Ambridge, PA, just west of Pittsburgh where I had lived for 8 years, to finalize the sale of the house I had moved out of back in 1998 to move to Alexandria, VA, where I am now.    When I got home, I spent nearly 3 weeks trying to install Windows XP, in a circus of "you can't get there from here" experiences.  Ended up that I had to get a new mother board, processor, and ram.  Now have a new, and much faster machine, but it really was a time of learning patience and humility.  Well, I had been asking the Lord to "dig deeply".   So, He did, and I got some cleaning up and freeing up along with the computer.   Deo gratia!   At any rate, that explains my long absence from updating the Road.   Not at all as planned, but ready again to go.

TV interview -- Earle Fox at Progressive College, Camp Springs, MD  -- preparation for Saturday June  workshops.

REPORT:  the TV interview went extremely well.  I was deeply impressed with the devotion of these people to the cause of truth.  They are doing precisely what all Christians should be doing, providing Christian education for their children, K through college.   Times and channels of showings of interview will be posted when I get the schedule.

Conversation over Baptist proposal to get children out of public schools --   See report

11  -   Wednesday

Leading clergy convocation in the Episcopal Diocese of Quincy, Illinois.  Topic: "Wielding the Sword of the Spirit in our Pseudo-Scientific Culture".    Quincy is one of the very few remaining orthodox and faithful dioceses in the Episcopal Church.  Please pray for a strong response among the clergy of the diocese.

The culture war in which we are engaged is at bottom a spiritual war, the question being, "Who is God?"   Who can determine our reason for being?  In practical fact it will be either the God of the Bible or it will be civil government.  Civil government is winning at present in the West.  But the Biblical folks are fast gaining ground and pulling the rug out from under the whole secular program.  (See below on "Intelligent Design" conference at Biola University.)

April
